PAIN FROM STRAIN (tied to school)
Comes only on school mornings, not at weekends.
Eases during the morning; by the afternoon the child is fine.
Gets worse before a particular lesson or a test.
PAIN FOR A DOCTOR (unrelated to school)
Hurts in the evening and during holidays too.
Wakes the child at night — pain from strain does not.
Comes with weight loss, fever or vomiting.
WHAT YOU CAN TRY TODAY (with strain)
Do not question the pain. It is real; arguing about whether it hurts only makes things worse.
Keep a week's notes — which days and before which lesson. The pattern shows up quickly.
Ask about a particular lesson, not about school in general. “How was it?” gets “fine”.
